Why PDFs Are Bad for Marriage Biodata

Most families send marriage biodata as multiple files: PDF biodata, photo attachments, and a horoscope — separately. Every one of these has real problems. Here’s why families are switching to a single private link.

For decades, Indian families have exchanged marriage biodata as Word documents and PDF files over WhatsApp. It became the standard — fill a template, export as PDF, send to whoever asks.

But this method has serious problems that most families have simply accepted as normal. They shouldn't have to.

1. You lose control the moment you send it

A PDF file can be forwarded to anyone, at any time, without your knowledge. Once you send it to one family, that file can be passed on to ten more — people you have never met, never consented to share with.

This is a genuine privacy risk. Your name, photo, phone number, date of birth, and home city are all in that file — permanently forwarded to strangers.

2. It gets outdated instantly

Your job changes. You move to a different city. Your expectations shift. A new photo is taken. But the old PDF is still circulating across dozens of WhatsApp chats with the previous job, the old photo, and outdated contact details.

You end up with dozens of versions of your biodata floating around, and no way to know which one people are looking at.

3. Resending is chaos

Every time something changes, you have to manually resend the new file to every person who has the old one. Most families don't do this. The outdated file keeps getting forwarded long after it's no longer accurate.

4. Photos lose quality

WhatsApp compresses images. PDFs with embedded photos degrade further on resend. By the time a family three steps down the chain receives your biodata, the photos may be too blurry to make a good impression.

5. Horoscopes are a separate mess

Horoscope documents are sent as separate attachments — buried in the same chat or missed entirely. Families frequently have to ask for it again, slowing the whole process down.

What the better option looks like

  • Shared as a private link — only people with the link can view it
  • Always shows the latest version — update once, everyone sees it instantly
  • Temporary links expire automatically — share without permanent loss of control
  • Photos load in full quality in any browser
  • Horoscope document attached directly to the profile — one link, everything included

The PDF biodata was a reasonable solution for a world without better options. That world no longer exists.
